What I Ate: July 8, 2010

Detox Day 3.

Last time I did this, the weight fell right off. It was a huge relief. This time, it's basically going nowhere. I'm still over 180 pounds, and nearly 10 pounds heavier than I was ten days ago. I was off plan for just over one day - 27 hours, to be exact. Guess I'm not allowed to slip.

I wonder if the questionable success of this detox has anything to do with my calorie levels. They've been quite low. But work has been so yucky coffees that it's been hard to keep up with my planned protein coffees.

  • Spiced chocolate protein frosty: 1/2 cup cottage cheese (80 kcals, 15g protein, 5g carbs, 0g fat), 1/2 scoop Nectar chocolate truffle protein powder (50 kcals, 11.5g protein, 1g carbs, 0g fat), 1/2 tbsp. Hershey's unsweetened cocoa (5 kcals, 0.5g carbs), nutmeg, allspice, cinnamon, SF syrups. Total - (135 kcals, 26.5g protein, 6.5g carbs, 0g fat).
  • 1 vanilla creme Oh Yeah! in 4 decaf coffees (220 kcals, 32g protein, 3g carbs, 9g fat)
  • Shake of deliciousness - not really sure how else to describe it: 1/2 scoop About Time birthday cake protein powder (52 kcals, 12.5g protein, 0g net carbs, 0g fat), 1/2 cup fat-free cottage cheese (80 kcals, 15g protein, 5g carbs, 0g fat), 1 tbsp. vanilla SF/FF Jello pudding mix (15 kcals, 3g carbs), DaVinci SF French vanilla, cookie dough, and butter rum syrups. Total - (147 kcals, 27.5g protein, 8g carbs, 0g fat).
  • Cheese omelet and curry-scented jicama hash browns with homemade tomato-onion compote: 1/4 cup Egg Beaters (30 kcals, 6g protein, 1g carbs, 0g fat), 1 oz. Whole Foods fat-free Monterey Jack cheese (40 kcals, 8g protein, 1g carbs, 0g fat), 104 grams grated jicama cooked in the style of Maria Health's healthy hashbrowns recipe (40 kcals, 0.7g protein, 4g net carbs, 0g fat), 45 grams tomato (10 kcals, 2.5g carbs), 10 grams onion (5 kcals, 0.8g net carbs), a dash of Worcestershire sauce, curry powder, soy sauce, garlic powder, oregano, and other spices (about 10 kcals, 1g net carbs, 0.5g fat). Total - (135 kcals, 14.7g protein, 9.8g net carbs, 0.5g fat). For the hashbrowns, I tried blanching the grated jicama before sauteing it, and it worked great. I still haven't gotten them to stick together yet, but with the mild crunchiness of the jicama and the brightness and deliciousness of the tomato sauce, I was mega-pleased with this meal.
  • Shake of deliciousness was so tasty, I decided to have it again! (147 kcals, 27.5g protein, 8g carbs, 0g fat).
  • 5 canteloupe chunks (about 23 kcals, 0.6g protein, 5g net carbs, 0.1g fat) and 1 peach (124 grams) (50 kcals, 1.1g protein, 10g net carbs, 0g fat). Total - (73 kcals, 1.7g protein, 15g net carbs, 0.1g fat).
Total:
857 calories
129.9g protein
60.6% kcals from protein
50.3g net carbs
23.5% kcals from net carbs
9.6g fat
10.1% kcals from fat.

  1. You must be retaining water or something... 1 day of "badness" just can't equal 10lbs, mathematically speaking.

  2. I know something weird is going on with water or glycogen or something, which is why I expected "detox" to melt the water weight right off. It wouldn't have been fat I know, but it would have been a psychological boost. Oh well.
